Rother team up with Bexhill College in exciting 'Beeching Road Studios' project

Rother Alliance members are delighted that another step towards opening a new creative hub in Beeching Road has been achieved.  At Rother District Council’s cabinet meeting on 7th September, cabinet members agreed to enter into a lease with Bexhill College and their partners Flatlands to operate the hub which has the working title ‘Beeching Road Studios'. This means that once the external and structural works are complete - the operator can develop the internal layout so that the hub can open in Spring of 2021.  Cabinet member for Economic Development Councillor Christine Bayliss said, “This is a really exciting project for Rother and Bexhill in particular. It comes at just the right time to help with the Post Covid-19 recovery, providing work and exhibition space for our growing community of creatives". The 'Beeching Road Studios' development is a key element in the Rother Alliance’s strategy for economic development which has the aim of creating more high quality jobs to bring wage levels in the District up to the national average. When fully established, the Studios will provide a home to artists and makers as well as craft, design and media businesses and their supply chain, and specialist training and education providers and their students. The vision is to offer tenants attractive, affordable and secure spaces to work in but also a space to welcome visitors and be an attraction in its' own right.  Cabinet member for Tourism, Communities and Culture Councillor Hazel Timpe said, “Alongside the De La Warr Pavilion, I see the Beeching Road Studios as being a major attraction on the Rother Cultural Trail I’m developing with officers. The idea behind the trail is to promote the creative industries in Rother to residents and visitors.”  Work is currently underway to secure the structure and renovate the exterior of the building with interior works planned over the winter months.
