On 31st July, at Full Council, Chair of Rother District Council Vikki Cook announced Little Gate Farm as her chosen charity for her 2023/24 term as Chair.
Little Gate Farm state that their mission is to help people with learning disabilities and autism into paid work. They do this through their Supported Work Training Programme, finding Supported Employment and Supported Apprenticeship opportunities, and continuing to support both trainees and their employers throughout their career.
Based in Beckley, Little Gate Farm service the local area and provide vital support to people with learning difficulties and autism.
Speaking about her choice, Councillor Cook said, "I have chosen to support Little Gate Farm because I have seen at first hand the success they have had in getting young people with particular needs into employment in the rural and town areas of our district. The support they offer to employers and employees to ensure these young people fit into a working environment is truly impressive. They also support siblings and younger people will particular needs, running a support group with volunteers who organise a variety of practical and adventurous outdoor programmes. They raise funds selling their market produce and serving refreshments in their cafe."
The announcement was met with nods of approval from across the Council chamber, with many Councillors having had positive reports or experiences with Little Gate Farm. To read more about Little Gate Farm, you can visit their website here.
